If you know who Dean Potter is then enough said…If you do not know who Dean Potter is then there is a world that you are unware of that has so much to give.
I have only briefly met Dean a few times. I met his wife Steph Davis Potter on a project in AZ. The two of them are a climbing combination that is unbeatable in combined talent, yet each one holds so much on their own.
Highliner – the video above, gives the Average Joe an insight to a world far above what most people would ever care to dream. Amazingly, it is where dreams come true. While I have yet to highline across something that is 3000 feet above the canyon floor, I certainly do understand it enough to respect the beauty of it.
Dean does this particular highline with no protection. He can control his falls and catch the highline, but nothing is ever guarenteed…a fall from the line would kill him.
The one thing I am sure of is that when Dean is crossing between the two rocks he is 100% present in his mind. As I have stated before, this place of being “100% present” is pure bliss. If you are in this state when you are skydiving, climbing, highlining or any other activity you are passionate about then you understand what joy it is to be there.
If you notice his body laungage at the end you can feel the energy sweep into his soul from the outside in. You can feel him grow immensly as he looks to the sky, hands and fist pumped upward and then…he takes it all in.
When a goal is accomplished and you look back after immediately completing it…you feel… unexplainable…you have to experience this to understand.
I strive to push myself in all ways that give me the feelings of being 100% present, success of completing goals and sweeping energy. I believe that if we all felt this way more often then the world would accelerate at an amazing speed towards success!

Dean Potter is a great rock climber and I think he is doing an awesome job bringing awareness to the sport. However, I don’t understand why he his always trying to get publicity by just doing crazy things. Hey that’s just mean though. Keep pushing the limits Dean.
I doubt it is for “publicity”, but rather as a means of confronting his own fears that he pushes personal boundaries. Without this ability, Dean Potter would not be who he is today.
Maybe the recognition he gets is not the driving force, but rather a by-product of all that he has accomplished by pushing himself further and further in all of his endeavors…
I have met dean recently and he is very modest about his climbing
