A simple promotion from The Discovery Channel to promote their shows, their hosts and the content that they provide…but deeper still is a look into a world where everyone involved in this commercial, loves and is passionate about their job.
You do not get to be the host of any television show unless one thing prevails upfront…your true desire and passion for what you do. Sure, there have been people who have captured the elusive spot of “TV Host” by other means, but those people are quickly pushed out by the viewers as they can plainly see who is “for real” and who is not.
An example of this is the Myth Busters’ Crew VS. Smash Lab. Both are Discovery shows, but you may have noticed that only Myth Busters was represented. The reason why is that the viewers have spoken on the forum boards and they know that Smash Lab was not created with passionate talent…merely hosts trying to fill a role designed to spit out a cookie cutter show concept.
The company representing Discovery Channel’s marketing image had to know this deep inside. They knew that each show, character and image represented in the promo had to subconsciously speak to the viewer and evoke passion from all sides.
Really…all the hosts on the Discovery Channel love their jobs and therefore they get to do their jobs in front of millions of people on a weekly basis. Especially the show Dirty Jobs. There is no way that Mike Rowe would still be around if he was not 100% passionate about being dirty, getting dirty and most of all being around people that love their own dirty jobs. His passion shines through the muck to give us all a clear picture of what reality is and what the world is. He loves his job and we love watching him for that.
There is a chemistry in these successful shows that keep us coming back to see more. That chemistry starts deep in the core of the person leading the show…The Host. Without that formula then nothing around it can be created that will stand up to the viewers standards.
The viewers cannot confirm that this is what they are looking for, but they know something is amiss. They understand that what they are watching is not the “true thing”. Now, is that not the exact case in real life? We choose to surround ourselves with individuals that are true to themselves and true to the world around them. People that are merely putting on a show we quickly dismiss. In the case of TV we quickly press the channel button and instantly that Host/TV Show is gone from our lives.
The key thing to pull from this video is that having passion about what you do will always lead to great things. You do not necessarily have to end up being a TV Host, but the images, feelings, thoughts and jobs that are represented in this promo will give you an idea of how to lead your life. You can go to space, make people happy, see the world, enjoy what you do, chase twisters, help mankind or any other thing that you are passionate about. Most of all, if love what you do it will in turn make you feel like you love the world.
I love the world and I love this promo. I love being passionate and finding passionate people to emulate. I love writing and helping others find their passion. I love a challenge and pushing myself to the limit of the mind, body and experience. I love being in front of and around others…hoping that subconsciously my energy will rub off onto them and they will view the world as a better place. I love the unknown and the experience of trying to make it known…
