you call that a ‘near death experience’ ! … tree landing with line twists, it’s an incident (and a small one), not an accident, and certainly not a near death blahblah !!
In response to jm I feel he is correct. I will continue to reedit the term “near death” out of the blog and enter in a more subtle “scary BASE incident”. The video speaks for itself in regards to what happened.
All comments are welcomed as that is how we grow, learn and become better at anything. If you are unwilling to accept negative comments or direction about what you have done then you are not truly looking at yourself….especially as other’s see you.
For this I am deeply grateful to jm for his response….well said.

I feel that your original title is perfectly accurate. That is a batch of line twists I hope to never deal with.
I saw this jump on the Continuum DVD. At first, it scares the #$%& out of me and then I laugh as you rebound instantly to the happy, amazing person you are.

Second ‘jm’. I did sky diving for the first time a couple weeks ago. They trained us in all kinds of parachute malfunctions. This video was not scary in the least and definitely no near death experience.
Also you shouldn’t be jumping so close to land.. that’s just stupid.. you need time to cutaway and deploy your reserve parachute if there’s a serious malfuction.
Phaedrus - This was a BASE Jump, not a skydive…Whenever you have line twists on a BASE jump that you may or may not get out of it is some serious business. If my canopy had turned a mere 90 degrees more to the left I would have struck that cliff, possibly more than once.
I am lucky I was not impaled on a tree branch as my back broke several tree tops off as I crashed through the trees. I know this because the 30 minutes I sat hanging in my harness I had a chance to see the swath that I cut through before I came to rest
Funny enough I had just got done talking to someone who had hit a cliff 6 times (same valley as this BASE jump), nearly died at the base of the cliff from many internal injuries and broken bones.
Hang out skydiving a little longer and you may here about some of your friends going in. Hang out in the sport of BASE and you may just witness some of your friends going in. When a canopy snivels like mine did you get scared, when it has line twists, like mine did you stay scared. When you crash through trees not knowing when you will come to a stop and how that will happen…you have no idea how to explain that. When you end up ok, you can look back and decide, “how did I really feel.”
Keep skydiving and maybe you will learn that BASE rigs do NOT have a reserve and jumping so close to land is what drives my passion for BASE Jumping.
So in my opinion it most definitly scary because when you have line twists you are only that much closer to what could be your last jump.
